PTSD stands for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. It is a mental health condition that can develop in individuals who have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. PTSD can occur after events such as natural disasters, serious accidents, physical or sexual assault, or other life-threatening situations.

PTSD can occur shortly after a traumatic event or may happen weeks later. Symptoms include flashbacks, nightmares, intrusive thoughts, heightened reactions, anxiety and avoidance of situations that my trigger memories of the event. These symptoms can impact a person’s daily functioning, relationships, and overall quality of life.
